What is Going on in California?

OK, so there are signs the housing market is starting to turn around, but this is ridiculous.

double dipI have two clients in the Bay area right now, and securing a contract on a home has proved challenging to say the least.  This is not 2005, but many of the homes that my buyers have put bids on have had multiple offers on the first day on the market, some with double-digit offers.

So what's behind this buying frenzy?  We certainly aren't seeing this kind of activity in Colorado, although things do seem to be improving.  Could it be the double-dip tax credit?  Doubtful that alone could be causing this type of strong activity.

Sitting here in Colorado, with our "normal" market (read: homes actually selling), I just can't fathom what's going on in California.  Will it be sustained?  What's behind it?
